In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.
In today’s news:
#californiacannabis – “Huntington Beach could soon be opening the doors to the cannabis industry.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting members voted on whether to lift the city’s current ban on recreational marijuana dispensaries and other cannabis businesses. If this moves forward, it would make Huntington Beach only the third city in Orange County to allow stores of this kind. Currently, only Santa Ana and Costa Mesa allow dispensaries…
The city debated the issue for nearly a year and some council members fought back against the idea.
The measure still needs to go through one more vote in the spring to be passed.”

#cannabisresearch – “The U.S. Senate on Wednesday approved a U.S. House of Representatives-passed bipartisan bill to expand researchers’ access to marijuana in order to study its potential medical benefits, sending the bill to President Joe Biden’s desk.
The Senate passed the Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act, or H.R. 8454 — sponsored by Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii — by voice vote.”

#vape – “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent warning letters Wednesday to five e-cigarette companies saying their products “shamelessly target” children and run afoul of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
None of the companies named in the letters sought pre-market authorization for their products, a requirement of the law, the agency said. On top of that, the companies designed the vapes in such a manner that young people would be attracted to them. These include printing cartoon characters on the products or making them look like vintage gadgets or popsicles.”

#cannabispolitics – ““In the past 25 years, not a single state has ever repealed or rolled back their cannabis legalization laws; this is evidence that these policies are working primarily as both voters and as state officials have intended,” Armentano said, adding that more than two-thirds of Americans now support adult-use legalization. “There is no ‘buyers’ remorse’ among the American public. They see that legalizing and regulating cannabis works and that this policy is preferable to one of criminalization, discrimination and stigmatization.”
Armentano also acknowledged President Joe Biden’s Oct. 6 call for cannabis reform, when the country’s top political leader called marijuana prohibition a “failed approach.”
Armentano said descheduling cannabis by removing the plant from the Controlled Substances Act entirely would mean millions of Americans would no longer have to live in fear of federal prosecution. Also, he said, hundreds of thousands of people who work in state-licensed industries will no longer face needless hurdles and discrimination—such as a lack of access to financial services, loans, insurance, 2nd Amendment rights, tax deductions, certain professional security clearances and other privileges.”
#californiacannabis – “The San Diego County Board of Supervisors gave final approval Wednesday to an ordinance that transfers cannabis licensing duties from the sheriff’s department to the county’s planning department.
The board gave initial approval to the ordinance Oct. 26, and voted 3- 0 Wednesday on final approval. The ordinance will take effect in 30 days.
Along with handling enforcement, the county’s Planning and Development Services agency will conduct background checks, quarterly and periodic inspections, issue operating certificates and process license renewals and transfers.”
