In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.
In today’s news:

#cannabisindustry – “One of the primary goals for us is to release our adult-use regulations, because that is really the first step in opening the full adult-use market in New York State. We hope to have that completed by the end of this year. And so we believe that that will poise us to be prepared to begin either at the beginning, the end of the first or maybe the beginning of the second quarter of next year with licensing.”
#cannabisindustry – “Based on the legislation establishing the ballot initiative, any new market would be crafted with an emphasis on social equity and a diverse makeup of businesses and entrepreneurs….
Next month’s vote comes after Maryland lawmakers earlier this year referred the issue of recreational marijuana to voters.”
#californiacannabis – “The state will expand its nearly four-decade multi-agency seasonal eradication program — the largest in the U.S. that this year scooped up nearly a million marijuana plants — into a year-round effort aimed at investigating who is behind the illegal grows. The new program will attempt to prosecute underlying labor crimes, environmental crimes and the underground economy centered around the illicit cultivations, said Attorney General Rob Bonta.
He called it “an important shift in mindset and in mission” aimed at also aiding California’s faltering legal market by removing dangerous competition.
“It’s upside down and our goal is complete eradication of the illegal market.””
#cannabisindustry – Montana – “A Cascade County District Court judge has overturned a municipal prohibition on cannabis dispensaries in Great Falls and ordered local officials to permit a new recreational marijuana shop as soon as possible.
Tuesday’s ruling comes just weeks before Great Falls residents will vote on whether to allow the sale of medical or recreational cannabis in the city limits, despite residents supporting sales by a wide margin in 2020 when voters statewide legalized recreational cannabis.
In 2020, Cascade County voters supported recreational legalization 54.7% to 45.3%, making it a “green” county where cannabis sales would automatically be allowed. However, “green” counties and municipalities can put forth a ballot initiative to make it illegal to sell recreational cannabis. On the other side of the equation, “red” counties can ask voters to make the drug legal.”

#californiacannabis – “Baldwin Park City Attorney Robert Tafoya allegedly came up with the idea for the bribery scheme orchestrated by former Councilman Ricardo Pacheco and sat in on a meeting where the elected official asked for at least $30,000 in payoffs from a cannabis company, according to a newly unsealed plea agreement signed by Pacheco.
Tafoya has not been charged, but allegations made in Pacheco’s plea agreement, signed last year and unsealed Friday, Oct. 7, by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, suggests the city attorney, who was raided by federal investigators alongside two others in 2020, may have violated his legal and ethical duties to the city by, at a minimum, not reporting the crime.
As part of his deal, Pacheco agreed to this “statement of facts” under penalty of perjury.”
