THE SCUTTLEBUTT FEATURING ARTICLES ABOUT IN A JOINT SETTLEMENT, COACHELLA MUSIC FESTIVAL AGREED TO DROP IT’S LAWSUIT SO LONG AS COACHILLIN AGREES TO STOP USING THEIR SIMILAR NAME AND MARKS, KENTUCKY GOVERNOR SIGNS MEDICAL CANNABIS INTO LAW AND MORE

In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.

In today’s news:

#psychedelics – “Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) has introduced a bill that would allow some end-of-life patients to use psilocybin and other investigational treatments.

The Right to Try Clarification Act would revise a current law that was designed to give access to experimental treatments to dying patients who have exhausted other options. The proposed bill would add Schedule I substances that have completed phase 1 clinical studies to the list of available options.”

#cannabisindustry – “Marijuana businesses in California and on the East Coast are evading worker-friendly licensing requirements by obtaining state business permits after signing deals with “labor organizations” that appear to be illegitimate “company unions,” documents and interviews show…..

Two big mainstream unions have been actively organizing cannabis sector workers:

But in the states noted above, marijuana businesses are also receiving state licenses after signing LPAs with company unions.”

#Californiacannabis – “Concerned Carpinterians, a cannabis watchdog group that has sought to rein in the greenhouse “grows” that have proliferated in the Carpinteria Valley in recent years, sent a letter this week to the California State Auditor, requesting that Santa Barbara County be placed “at the top of the list” for investigations of potential corruption in local cannabis regulation and licensing.

The March 27 letter to Auditor Grant Parks comes on the heels of last week’s decision by the state Joint Legislative Audit Committee to authorize an audit of cannabis licensing and permit review practices in six California counties, still to be selected.”

#cannabispolitics – “Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on Friday signed into law a bill legalizing medical cannabis in the state, making it the 38th to do so in the country.

Beshear announced the signing Friday morning via Twitter, one day after the state’s House of Representatives approved the bill in a 66-33 floor vote and two weeks after the state Senate approved it in a 26-11 vote. Just before signing the bill at a press conference Friday morning, Beshear called it “historic” and noted the people of the state have been pushing for it for years.”

#psychedelics – “In a decision granting summary judgment in favor of the government, U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell found that plaintiff Iowaska Church of Healing was not entitled to tax-exempt status

because its activities included distributing a federally controlled substance to members.

Judge Howell wrote that as long as the church engaged in federally illegal activity it could not be said to be primarily organized as a religious organization.

“Absent a [Controlled Substances Act] exemption, plaintiff’s primary activities therefore amount to the illegal distribution and promotion of the use of a controlled substance, a non-exempt purpose,” the court wrote.”

#californiacannabis – “In a joint notice of settlement filed Friday, Coachella Music Festival LLC and Goldenvoice LLC, which run the festival, told the court that they had reached a deal with Coachillin Holdings LLC and the other related defendants.

Neither the notice nor the concurrently filed stipulation detail the terms of the settlement. The stipulation includes a proposed order stating that Coachillin used the name and trademark without Coachella’s permission, and that Coachella’s trademarks are enforceable.

The proposed order would direct Coachillin and the associated defendants to stop using the Coachillin trademark and name, and any other marks that are confusingly similar to Coachella’s branding, both in their products and services, as well as on Coachillin’s social media sites.”
