In today’s news:
#californiacannabis – “The cannabis-lounge idea came out of meetings with a group of cannabis retailers who are advocating for a pilot program of lounges in the unincorporated areas of the county. Among the advantages, according to the retail industry, are the county remaining competitive with other jurisdictions, providing a safe environment to consume cannabis, normalizing social consumption, reducing stigma and resulting in higher gross receipts and associated tax revenue.”

#cannabislaw – “The Hawthorne Gardening Co. and the Hawthorne Collective Inc. filed a notice of dismissal with prejudice Friday, and the parties have settled the claims, according to press releases issued Friday by defendant JW Asset Management LLC and RIV Capital Inc., the company in which Hawthorne had invested.
Hawthorne had sued JWAM and TerrAscend Corp. earlier in February, alleging that Jason G. Wild, who owns JW Asset Management, which in turn owns 40% of TerrAscend Corp.’s stock, was using JWAM’s position as the largest shareholder of RIV Capital Inc. to interfere with RIV’s acquisition of Etain IP LLC, which holds a New York cannabis license.”
#cannabisindustry – “An Arizona federal judge won’t let GrowersHouseLLC escape claims that it misclassified two of its employees as management and denied them overtime pay, saying there is a factual dispute over what those employees’ regular duties were.
In an order filed Thursday, U.S. District Judge Rosemary Marquez denied GrowersHouse’s bid for summary judgment on claims from Satchidananda Buber and Joseph Trejo, who work as account managers for the company, which supplies indoor gardening equipment, primarily to cannabis growers.
In the suit, Buber and Trejo allege that they regularly work more than 40 hours per week but are not paid overtime, with GrowersHouse relying on a “farce” job description to get around the Fair Labor Standards Act and Arizona state law requiring overtime.”
#cannabispolitics – “Virginia lawmakers failed to pass legislation to regulate an adult-use marijuana market before the legislative session ended Saturday.
Virginia’s recreational marijuana industry is on indefinite hold.
Less than two years after the state became the first in the South to legalize adult-use marijuana for adults 21 and older, the projected start date for legal sales of Jan. 1, 2024, has been effectively scrapped.”

#californiacannabis – “Only one of the four lottery winners for city cannabis retail sales permits actually has started the paperwork process to obtain the required permits, so it’s going to be a while before any shops open in Encinitas, city officials report.
Mayor Tony Kranz asked for a status report at the end of Wednesday’s City Council meeting, saying he wanted to dispel some of the “chatter” in the community about when the cannabis shops will start operating.”
