THE SCUTTLEBUTT FEATURING ARTICLES ABOUT CANNABIS FOR PETS, SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT COUNTY ECONOMY CRASH DUE TO CANNABIS INDUSTRY, MAYOR OF ADELANTO PLEADS GUILTY TO TAKING BRIBES AND KICKBACKS AND MORE

In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.

In today’s news:

#californiacannabis – “A Los Angeles-based financial firm specializing in loaning money to cannabis companies says a cultivator owes it more than $400,000, according to a lawsuit filed in California state court.

Bespoke Financial Inc. says that In Da Cut LLC and Drayten Howell, its CEO and founder, skipped out on the loan payments — about $1,120 a month — last fall, thereby entering into default.

“Since both In Da Cut and Howell have failed to perform their obligations under their respective agreements, Bespoke brings this action to collect upon the money it is rightfully entitled to,” according to the suit filed Jan. 11.”

#hempderivedproducts – “The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission wants the psychoactive product called Delta-8 to be regulated. After much research over months, the commission released recommendations to the General Assembly…..

Among its findings, the commission made the following recommendations:

Hemp-derived products should be tested for contaminants, including heavy metals, bacteria and chemicals.

Labeling should include a universal symbol indicating the product contains THC, warning labels, a list of ingredients and a certificate of analysis showing the product has been tested.

The packaging should not be attractive to children.

Therapeutic claims must be substantiated by clinical evidence.

Manufacturing must follow Food and Drug Administration guidelines known as Certified Good Manufacturing Practices.

Retailers must be licensed by the state.

Increase public health messaging about risks associated with THC products.”

#californiacannabis – “The former mayor of Adelanto has agreed to plead guilty to a federal criminal charge for accepting more than $57,000 in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for approving ordinances authorizing commercial marijuana activity within the city, and ensuring his co-schemers obtained city licenses or permits for their commercial marijuana activities, the Justice Department announced today.

Richard Allen Kerr, 65, of Adelanto, has agreed to plead guilty to one count of honest services wire fraud, a crime that carries a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.”

#californiacannabis – ““The economy here has crashed,” said Laura Lasseter, the director of operations for the Southern Humboldt Business and Visitors Bureau. “… The economy in Southern Humboldt is in crisis mode, and 90% of that crisis mode is because of the cannabis industry.”

Garberville is the most obvious sign of an economic collapse that is reverberating across the surrounding “Emerald Triangle,” a three-county region that includes Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity counties. For decades, this area was the cannabis-growing capital of the entire country, but now the pot farms are going out of business and bringing down the local economy with them.”

#pets – “While prescribing cannabis to veterinary patients should not be done in any state, veterinarians may be permitted to discuss cannabis with pet owners or recommend cannabis to companion animals, depending on state law. In many states with legal cannabis programs, such as Colorado, the state veterinary medical association provides guidance for discussing cannabis with companion animal owners. The Colorado Veterinary Medical Association Position Statement on Marijuana and Marijuana-derived Products in Companion Animals states that “veterinarians have an obligation to provide companion animal owners with a complete education regarding the potential risks and benefits of marijuana products in animals” but confirms that it is illegal for veterinarians to prescribe cannabis to animal patients.

In 2022, the California legislature passed Assembly Bill 1885, which prohibits the California Veterinary Medical Board from disciplining veterinarians who recommend cannabis to animal patients, except under limited circumstances. Under the bill, veterinarians may not discuss or recommend cannabis use with a client if the veterinarian is employed by, or has an agreement with, a licensed cannabis business. Veterinarians are also prohibited from distributing any cannabis advertising.”
