In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.
In today’s news:
#californiacannabis – “State auditors plan to identify six jurisdictions with licensed cannabis businesses and review criteria used to approve the permits, reviewing local governments that have been rocked by corruption allegations and others that appear to have fewer such problems.
They’ll be looking for patterns in the licensing rules that indicate whether certain practices are “more susceptible to fraud and abuse,” State Auditor Grant Parks told lawmakers Wednesday. They’ll also be reviewing a “fairly good sample” of cannabis permits to check whether local authorities followed rules they had set, he said.”
#cannabispolitics – “This bill would specify that “it is unlawful for an employer to request information from an applicant for employment relating to the applicant’s prior use of cannabis.” It also restates that this section of the Government Code “does not permit an employee to possess, to be impaired by, or to use, cannabis on the job, or affect the rights or obligations of an employer to maintain a drug- and alcohol-free workplace, or any other rights or obligations of an employer specified by federal law or regulation.””

#cannabispolitics – “But Lisa Smith, a Youngkin-supporting Northern Neck resident who was one of the mothers involved in the initial push to legalize CBD oil, says the strict hemp regulation bill the General Assembly passed this year threatens to undo the help legislators extended to families like hers nearly a decade ago.
The 100 milliliter bottles of CBD oil she gets shipped from a Colorado-based company called Charlotte’s Web, Smith said, are big enough they’d most likely violate a provision in the pending law that says cannabis products can contain no more than 2 milligrams of THC “per package.”
“After eight years of using the same thing with great results, I don’t want her to have to go seek something else,” Smith said of her daughter, Haley, who has a form of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome.”
#californiacannabis – “The Ukiah City Council voted 4-0 recently to move forward an ordinance allowing on-site consumption of cannabis at permitted retailers, with final adoption of the changes scheduled for its next meeting on April 5.
“I think we do have to recognize that it seems our two biggest industries are both intoxicants: wine and cannabis, and I don’t think it’s an unfair comparison to say that we let people drink in bars, and we let people do wine tasting, and people don’t seem too concerned about that,” said Council member Susan Sher. “I think we’re being very hypocritical if we allow people to drink themselves sick and get in their cars, and we don’t allow controlled consumption at dispensaries.”

#psilocybin – Oregon – ““We congratulate Tori Armbrust of Satori Farms PDX LLC for being issued the first psilocybin license in Oregon’s history and for representing women leading the way for the emerging psilocybin ecosystem,” OPS Section Manager Angie Allbee said in a press release.
“We are committed to fostering an inclusive partnership with our regulated community to ensure safe, effective and equitable psilocybin services throughout the state,” Allbee said.”
#cannabislaw – Trademark Infringement – “In a complaint filed Thursday, TRU Kids Inc. said the Zaza R Us logo copies the bubble-like font used for Toys R Us stores, websites and products, complete with a reversed “R” and almost identical “Us,” with the star at the center of the Toys R Us “R” replaced with a marijuana leaf.
This violates the Lanham Act, the toy store said, adding it has federally registered trademarks for its logos and the names of its stores and products that Zaza R Us is infringing. According to the complaint, “Zaza” is a colloquial term for high-grade cannabis.”
#cannabisindustry – “What is known — from interviews with state law enforcement officials, experts on the international drug trade, economists and lawmakers — is that the number of farms funded by sources traceable back to Chinese investors or owners has skyrocketed. Chinese owners and workers have become a larger presence at illegal grows in Oklahoma, California and Oregon, they say.”

#cannabisindustry – “Legal woes are piling on for Innovative Industrial Properties, as another shareholder has accused the cannabis-focused real estate investment trust of misleading investors about its due diligence on a key California-based marijuana company.
In a federal lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Maryland, where the publicly traded REIT is incorporated, Innovative Industrial Properties (IIP) investor Ross Weintraub accused Executive Chair Alan D. Gold, CEO Paul Smithers and other company officials of breaching their fiduciary duty by either failing to discover or declining to disclose key facts about one of the company’s main investments, Kings Garden.”
