THE SCUTTLEBUTT FEATURING ARTICLES ABOUT A BLEAK CROPTOBER IN CA, IP INFRINGEMENT IN COACHELLA AND MORE

In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.

In today’s news:

#californiacannabis – “A California cannabis company owes the city of Los Angeles about $60,000 for unpaid tax assessments and should be made to pay up after not filing a responsive pleading, a recent filing contends.

The Superior Court brief from the city asks the court to enter a judgment against Vertical Bliss Inc. of Chatsworth for $54,803.30 for 2018 and 2019 tax assessments, plus $5,185.74 in interest and penalties.

The action was filed and a complaint was served in July, but because Vertical Bliss did not file a responsive pleading, the court clerk entered default against the company on Sept. 26, according to the brief.”

#californiacannabis – “California’s outdoor cannabis harvest, nicknamed “Croptober,” is in full swing to beat the fall rains and frost. But what’s weighing on the expected tonnage more than the seasonal weather and years-long drought is the economic climate for the fledgling legal industry.

“It looks like every farmer has taken advantage of the opportunity to go fallow,” said Samuel Rodriguez of Good Farmers Great Neighbors, a Central Coast cannabis farming advocacy group whose members also have substantial North Coast acreage.

The scale of those cutbacks in production are ranging from 30% to half of previous levels — to fully not harvesting, Rodriguez said.”

#californiacannabis – “The organizers of Coachella are suing Coachillin’ Holdings LLC and several associated businesses, saying the companies are piggybacking on a common hashtag and expression associated with the music festival and infringing on the festival’s trademarks.

In a complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Coachella Music Festival LLC and GoldenVoice LLC said the term “coachillin” had been associated with the festival in the public eye for years before Coachillin’ Holdings came to be, and that the branding was a deliberate attempt to trade on the festival’s goodwill.”

#californiacannabis – “The California Department of Justice is calling it “EPIC,” which stands for Eradication and Prevention of Illicit Cannabis. What was formerly a 13-week seasonal program will now transition into a year-round task force, focusing on investigating and prosecuting civil and criminal cases related to environmental, economic and labor impacts from illegal cultivation.

The California DOJ says that it doesn’t want to just focus on cultivation, which is what CAMP does (California Campaign Against Marijuana Planting). They’re expanding their opp force, funnelling more money into police and state agents.

The government is so focused on catching illegal cannabis growers and distributors that they’ve lost sight of what’s really causing the problem.”
