THE SCUTTLEBUTT FEATURING ARTICLES ABOUT NEW YORK OPENS IT’S FIRST LEGAL DISPENSARY, NEWSOM PARDONS TWO CANNABIS CONVICTIONS BUT MORE ARE NEEDED, OREGON’S FINAL PSYCHEDELICS RULES RELEASED AND MORE

In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.

In today’s news:

#cbdproducts – “Google is partnering with LegitScript to create a certification program for non-ingestible CBD manufacturers. LegitScript CEO Scott Roth explained how the certification aims to create a standard for the cannabis industry. “When people see the LegitScript seal on your product or website, they know that you operate safely and transparently,” said Roth. “In an industry that is still seeing widespread problems with products that are tainted, substandard, or illegal, it’s more important than ever to give consumers confidence that the CBD products they’re purchasing have been properly vetted.””

#psychedelics – “Oregon’s final administrative rules to implement the Psilocybin Services Act have been set, the Oregon Health Authority announced Tuesday. The state is days away from becoming the first in the U.S. to offer controlled use of the psychedelic mushroom to the public….

The rules implement the Oregon Psilocybin Services Act, otherwise known as Ballot Measure 109. The act is now codified in Oregon law and the rules will be adopted starting Jan. 1, 2023.”

#medicalcannabis – “of particular significance for healthcare providers, the Cannabis Research Act also includes a doctor-patient relationship provision that permits state-licensed physicians to discuss the “currently known potential harms and benefits of marijuana and its derivatives, including cannabidiol, which may be derived from marijuana or other cannabis products such as hemp, as a treatment.”

The full provision is provided below:

SEC. 301. DOCTOR-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP.
It shall not be a violation of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 801 et seq.) for a State-licensed physician to discuss—(1) the currently known potential harms and benefits of marijuana derivatives, including cannabidiol, as a treatment with the legal guardian of the patient of the physician if the patient is a child; or (2) the currently known potential harms and benefits of marijuana and marijuana derivatives, including cannabidiol, as a treatment with the patient or the legal guardian of the patient of the physician if the patient is a legal adult.”

#cannabis – “On December 23, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued ten pardons for convictions between 1973 and 2008. Most convictions involved drug-related crimes, including possessing, transporting, and selling substances. Two pardons went to people with convictions for marijuana offenses….

Pardoning a handful of old marijuana convictions here and there is nowhere near enough, according to the nonprofit Last Prisoner Project, which is focused on ending imprisonment for the “tens of thousands of individuals still unjustly imprisoned for cannabis” in the United States.

“While we are grateful @GavinNewsom has used his clemency power to pardon two individuals convicted of marijuana offenses, there are thousands of people in California whose cannabis convictions should be completely expunged,” the organization said on Twitter. “California is now the largest legal market on the planet, and it is unconscionable that so many are still suffering the collateral consequences of these convictions.””

#cannabisindustry – “The first legal dispensary for recreational marijuana in New York rung up its first sales on Thursday, opening up what is expected to be one of the country’s most lucrative markets for cannabis — underscored by the dozens of unauthorized shops that have operated in the open for years.

The widely anticipated opening of the first state-sanctioned dispensary, which is operated by the nonprofit Housing Works, paves the way for a string of openings expected in the coming months in New York.”
