THE SCUTTLEBUTT FEATURING ARTICLES ABOUT RECREATIONAL CANNABIS SALES BEGIN IN CONNECTICUT, FLORIDA MEDICAL CANNABIS EXPANSION IN THE WORKS, IT’S AN EXCITING TIME FOR PSYCHEDELICS AND MORE

In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.

In today’s news:

#psychedelics – “It’s an exciting time for a reborn field. Early clinical trials suggest MDMA may help patients with PTSD confront their traumatic memories. In other early studies, ketamine has reduced suicidal thoughts and other symptoms in patients with clinical depression.

Psilocybin too may be able to help people with intractable depression, decreasing symptoms in some patients for a year or more, though the data here are still limited. And many other studies and trials are ongoing in the field.”

#cannabispolitics – “At first glance, it may appear odd that a majority of the proposals for adult-use cannabis failed when there appeared to be nearly universal momentum toward liberalizing cannabis policy throughout the states.

Cannabis legalization is polling at an all-time high;[13] many Americans have used[14] or are familiar with[15] cannabis products; and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first cannabis-derived medication in recent years.[16] But, like the old clunker you drove in high school, history often moves in fits and starts — progress is certainly not linear.

If anything, these results may serve as a helpful reminder to many in the cannabis industry that nonmedical cannabis is still a controversial topic among many voters. It may be significant that in all three states where the initiatives failed, the medical-use cannabis programs are still fairly young.”

#cannabisindustry – “The long-awaited expansion of Florida’s medical cannabis industry appears to finally be in the works, with a potential major expansion of licenses on the horizon. Florida health regulators announced that the state is preparing to potentially double the number of licenses available for medical marijuana treatment centers (“MMTCs”) by allowing up to 22 additional licenses to operate. Application for licensure of MMTCs will also see considerable changes.

In a highly anticipated decision, the Florida Department of Health (the department tasked with regulating medical cannabis through the Office of Medical Marijuana Use) recently issued Emergency Rule 64ER22-9 (the “Order”) which will significantly alter application review and associated fees.”

#californiacannabis – “Pot cultivator Genetixs says a California state judge should consider imposing sanctions for the “outrageous conduct” displayed by counsel for former NFL player Sharod “Roddy” White and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Julio Jones, saying they submitted an unauthorized filing that included an attorney’s disciplinary record.

Attorneys for White and Jones were supposed to submit a notice that they would attend a hearing, but they also included five pages of “unpermitted” arguments against an already approved tentative order, Genetixs said in a motion filed Monday that seeks to strike nearly all the notice’s contents and punish the defendants’ counsel. The defendants also attached a state bar complaint filed against one of Genetixs’ attorneys — Joe Inumerable of the Zavala Law Group PC — who was prosecuted for “abandoning” a client’s case. The state bar issued a private reproval to Innumerable in March 2021.”

#cannabisindustry – “Recreational cannabis sales to adults in Connecticut began this morning. In all, seven dispensaries opened as of 10 a.m. All adults 21 and older are now able to purchase cannabis products.

In the first day of sales, over $250,000 has been recorded, according to Biotrack, which is the inventory tracking system used to monitor the movement of cannabis products in the state’s medical and adult-use cannabis markets.”
