In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.
In today’s news:
#psychedelics – “It is being hailed as everything from the beginning of a journey to the coming of a new industry, but for sure it’s a step toward legal consumption of “magic mushrooms” in Colorado. The involved event is merely a bureaucratic exercise — today’s first advisory board meeting will, over the next couple of years, move “magic mushrooms” into a legal and regulated space….
The Natural Medicine Advisory Board will advise Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) on the manufacturing, testing, and use of psilocybin and psilocin — the psychoactive compounds in “magic mushrooms.””

#psychedelics – “The current wave of renewed interest seems fueled by a confluence of historic and cultural factors. Just as the antiwar, Civil Rights, and Women’s Liberation movements of the 1960s pushed for social progress and reform, their echoes in present-day Black Lives Matter and Me Too movements highlight the ongoing struggle to achieve a just and equitable society. Increasing concern about climate change; feelings of alienation from ourselves, each other, and the natural world; a global pandemic; and resulting doubts about the fabric of our social structures have also helped set the stage for questioning past narratives about the relative risks and values of psychedelics.”
#californiacannabis – “The City Council on April 12 unanimously approved the first reading of a proposed cannabis business tax ordinance, setting up a tax increase on the city’s select cannabis businesses….
Under Measure L, the city can increase taxes on retail cannabis businesses between 4% and 7%% and raise taxes on non-retail establishments by 1% to 4%. Cannabis cultivation sites would be taxed at fees ranging from $2-$10 per square foot canopy area.
City staff estimates the tax measure will generate between $800,000 and $1.4 million annually in gross revenue for Encinitas.”

#cannabislaw – “A consulting firm is asking a Nevada federal court to award it nearly $157,000 in legal fees a week after winning a $1.6 million judgment against a cannabis company run by Instagram celebrity Dan Bilzerian in a contract dispute.
In a motion filed Tuesday, Consulting by AR LLC said its contract with Ignite Spirits Inc. states that, in the event of litigation, the prevailing party is entitled to costs and expenses, including attorney fees.”
#californiacannabis – “Seemingly no corner of the state’s $51 billion agricultural industry was spared the winter’s wrath, including the nearly 3,000 small cannabis farmers who were hit hard by the storms.
It will be months before a full financial picture emerges, but outdoor cultivators are already feeling the financial squeeze as they confront an existential question: How much longer can the people who built California’s cannabis industry afford to stay in it?”
